The Quattro Stagioni emerged in post-war Italy during the 1950s, when pizzaiolos began experimenting with more elaborate toppings to satisfy increasingly sophisticated palates. The concept was inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo's famous paintings that depicted seasons through arrangements of seasonal produce.
